Extreme Home Makeover - Vancouver Edition

Before Asher was born we reinvented our one bedroom apartment for a baby- most notably turning our closet into a baby nook:

Now that Asher is big and can't sleep in the closet anymore- and now that Tott 2 is on the way- we have reinvented the place once again. Instead of a baby nook, the closet is, well.....

...a closet, a yellow closet, but still a closet. This closet contains many of our clothes because our bedroom has morphed into...

...a full-fledged bedroom for Asher! It also doubles as a storage room and playroom. You may then be wondering, if that used to be Scott and Tami's bedroom, where is their bed? Well, if you are particularly observant and remember how our place has been setup since Asher, you may notice that the changing table is now in the bedroom instead of in the living room. In the place where the changing table used to be now stands...

What could it be???

In case the overabundance of words hasn't tipped you off, Scott is writing this. And that fine piece of craftsmanship right there is my handiwork (much to the chagrin of our neighbors, I built it in the front yard a few weekends ago). And it does this...

A WALL BED!!!

The original plan was to use a pulley system to raise and lower the bed, but unfortunately,
despite a lot of time planning, that only worked in the realm of theoretical physics. I could manually raise and lower the bed, but I wanted Tami to be able to do it too, otherwise she'd have to get out of bed before I left for work everyday- and she deserves to sleep in when she can! So I got a winch (yes, the kind that pull ATV's out of the mud) and an adapter that allows you to power DC battery run devices by plugging them in. It's kind of loud, a bit creaky and kind of awkward for me to get out of on the wall side, but it does the job and looks good doing it! The bottom line is that we have a motorized wall bed for less than one-fifth of their normal two grand price tag.

If we get even crazier and try to reinvent once again, someone please storm the border and come up here and get us!
